Dr Brian May’s Save Me Trust and Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue launch #AmazingGrace campaign to save Britain’s Hedgehogs. Tuesday 26 April.
“The UK’s hedgehogs are in trouble. Our hedgehog population has dropped dramatically from 35 million to less than a million in the last forty years. We want to highlight the dangers faced by hedgehogs in Britain today and the threat of how they could be extinct by 2025 – that’s less than 10 years – unless we can help them.” Dr Brian May.
Dr Brian May’s Save Me Trust and Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue are launching a new campaign #AmazingGrace aimed at raising public awareness of the plight of our nation’s favourite wild animal, the hedgehog.
The campaign will be launched in The Atlee Room, Portcullis House on Tuesday, April 26, at 10.00am and is sponsored by Members of Parliament Andrea Jenkyns MP and Oliver Colville MP where attendees will be introduced to the star of the campaign, ‘Grace’, a rescued hedgehog.
Grace can be seen in the launch video at: www.gracethehedgehog.co.uk
Those attending the launch event will have the chance to hear Dr Brian May and Kerry Ellis performi their special version of the classic “Amazing Grace” the theme song for the campaign.
The Save Me Trust and Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue ‘Grace’ campaign calls on the public to support their efforts by making a video or picture ‘selfie’ quoting one of the “Amazing Grace” hedgehog facts found on its website and sharing their ‘selfie’ with friends on social media using the hashtag #AmazingGrace. The campaign is designed to create awareness of the threat to the hedgehog population and shows that doing a few simple things could make a real difference to ‘Grace’ and her friends.
Dr Brian, May founder of Save Me said: “How shocking that hedgehogs are in danger of extinction in this country. We have destroyed most of the hogs’ habitat by over development and ruined what’s left with poisons and restrictions on their movement. We CAN unite and give these wonderful creatures a chance. Help us spread the news.”
