Duran Duran have pledged to donate proceeds from sales of Eagles of Death Metal’s cover of Save a Prayer to charity.
A fan-led campaign has made a bid to get the track by the US rock band to the top of the charts following Friday’s terror attacks in Paris. Eagles of Death Metal performed at music venue Le Bataclan on Friday, with over 80 people killed during a shooting at the gig.
Announcing the pledge via Twitter on Monday, Simon Le Bon, who wrote the original 1982 single, posted: “EODMforNo1 DuranDuran will donate all proceeds due to us, from this version. Considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting.”
According to the midweek UK Official Charts, the track has entered at No 96, and could climb as more data arrives in from chart-reporting retailers and streaming services throughout the week.
The campaign’s Facebook group currently has over 12,000 members. Eagles of Death Metal have yet to make a statement following the Paris attacks.
