Mag Mag, a small independent record label founded by Miami indie-rock band Jacuzzi Boys, have announced that they are starting a new series of flexi-disc releases. To kick things off they enlisted the help of a pretty big name, with the release of a new single from Iggy Pop.
“Asshole Blues” sees Pop backed by just an acoustic guitar as he sings about “an asshole on [his] tail” that “won’t let [him] be.” As he told Rolling Stone, “I wrote a blues song about an asshole who’s out to get me. It’s full of negative energy. Listen at your own risk. It’s fun to play the blues.” The track echoes pre-war blues music both in its structure and the scratchy, lo-fi quality of the recording, and it’s a style that suits Iggy Pop perfectly.
The connection between Pop and Mag Mag came about after Jacuzzi Boys opened a show for Pop last year on his Post Pop Depression Tour. You can check out live photos from one of those shows right here.
