George Michael’s cousin suspects the singer died from an accidental drugs overdose.
The former Wham! frontman passed away on 25 December (16) at his home in Oxfordshire, England at the age of 53. A postmortem examination proved “inconclusive” and further tests are being carried out.
His cousin Andros Georgiou appeared on the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire show on Tuesday (17Jan17) and revealed George was back on “hard drugs” towards the end of his life. He added he believes the singer accidentally took too many substances at the same time.
“I just think he took too much of something, mixed with antidepressants and other drugs he was on – with alcohol,” he said. “I think his heart just stopped beating.”
Andros, a former music producer who toured with George until they fell out in 1998, said he wanted “to get to the truth of what happened, exactly what was in his blood at the time, who gave it (the drugs) to him, why did he have it again”.
He added the Faith star, who was admitted to a rehab facility in Switzerland in 2015, had been taking steps to conquer is drug demons but he believes he was “dragged back into the dark side”. He denied the singer used heroin but said crack cocaine was a “favourite”.
Shortly after George’s death, the Twitter account of his partner Fadi Fawaz was reportedly hacked and allegations the singer committed suicide were posted. Andros is adamant that was not the case.
“I believe he had suicidal thoughts, because his mental health was all over the place. But I don’t believe this was suicide,” he said.
His interview comes just days after he posted a message on Facebook slamming Fadi, who fell asleep in his car outside George’s home the night before he died.
“The more I am reading and the more I am finding out about Fadi I just can’t keep my mouth shut any longer,” he wrote. “No 1 he was never with Yog (George) 24 hours a day they never lived together he lived in one of Yogs houses in Regents Park ?
“And even if they were, WHY were they not together on Christmas Eve ? and WHY did he sleep in the car ? Too many questions have come up…. Every day I get more angry at the lies I am reading I pray that this nobody doesn’t earn a penny from Yogs death…”
He added he hoped police will reach the same conclusion he has and that “justice will be served”.
