Rockers Guns N’ Roses have sent their condolences to the family of a fan who was killed in a bus crash en route to their show in Mexico City.
Mauricio Ballesteros Zamora, 35, had been on board a bus with a large group of fellow fans, heading to the reunited band’s gig at the Foro Sol on Wednesday (20Apr16), when the vehicle flipped on the Mexico-Queretaro highway.
Zamora reportedly died from his injuries, while almost 30 other passengers were also wounded, including three who required serious medical attention.
Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan have since reached out to share their heartbreak over the news with devotees online.
A statement posted on the stars’ Twitter.com page on Thursday (21Apr16) reads: “We in Guns N’ Roses are shocked and extremely saddened to hear of the horrifying bus crash en route to our Mexico City show yesterday.
“Our thoughts and hearts are with the family of Mauricio Ballesteros Zamora. We are so very sorry for your loss.
“We hope for a speedy recovery to the 29 other injured fans. God speed.”
The show was GNR’s second at the Foro Sol venue, and the latest on their classic line-up reunion tour after headlining the Coachella festival in California last Saturday (16Apr16).
They will return to Coachella this weekend (23Apr16), before embarking on a full North American trek in late June (16), after Axl, who is currently sporting a broken foot, joins AC/DC to fill in for ailing Brian Johnson on their ongoing Rock Or Bust world tour. Axl will step into lead singer Brian’s shoes after doctors advised the AC/DC star to pull out of the tour or face total hearing loss.
