Robert Plant
A primary school band from Wales have been booked to support Robert Plant at his concert this weekend.
The former Led Zeppelin singer will headline Forest Live festival in Cannock Chase Forest, Staffordshire on Saturday (July 11).
The band, Y Storm, are all pupils at Ysgol OM Edwards in Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd, with the five members aged between 10 and 11. They write their own material, with lyrics in both English and Welsh.
Two members of the group are the children of Liam Tyson, guitarist with Plant’s backing band The Sensational Space Shifters.
Plant extended the invitation to the group after hearing of their success at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod, the annual Welsh-language youth festival of literature, music and performing arts.
“He knows they’ve been in a band, he’s seen the progression over the years. He knows they’ve won the Eisteddfod, and he champions all things Welsh, so it was the next step to do,” Tyson told the BBC.
“For their age they’d give anybody a run,” he added. “They’re on the gig because they’ve done well over the years and they’ve progressed and progressed and they’ve kept progressing.”
Following Led Zeppelin’s final album in 1982, Plant has pursued a successful solo career. His 10th album ‘Lullaby And… The Ceaseless Roar’ was released in 2014.
